What
does it mean to "register" a domain name?
There is a central registry of all domain names on the Internet.
For your domain name to become a part of the registry, your domain
name needs to be added to that registry. "Registering" a domain
name means you are associated with that domain name for the period
of the registration. "Registering" a name means you own it, and
no one else can register that exact same name!

Who
should register a domain name?
Anyone thinking about establishing a presence on the Internet should
register a domain name. You don't have to utilize it right away,
but you can reserve it for your future use. Domains are being registered

it possible for someone to register my domain name after I have
registered it?

If
a domain name is already registered, can I find out who owns the
name?
Yes. If you check the availability of a domain name and it is already
registered, click on the box: "Show Registrant Information". This
will display the contact information associated with a registered
domain name.

I've
got my domain name, now what?
There are many things you can do with your new domain. Some people
want to build a website for their corporate or personal use. If
that is the case, you might want to host your site with us (but
you can also host it with any other web host). Contact your web
host, and get their Domain Name Server Info (DNS Info .. if hosting
with us, the DNS already points to our servers). You can have the
new DNS info put into your domain by clicking on the "Manage Your
Domain" link. The domain will then transfer to your new web host
in 12-48 hours. Others want to do email addresses. Again,
get the DNS info of your ISP. You can have them set up mailboxes
to route from your domain being hosted on their web servers. Some
just want to resell their domain name. In that case, you may certainly
sell your new domain to whomever you like. You may transfer your
domain to a new buyer by using our "Transfer of Ownership" form
in the "Manage Your Domain" section.

own a new domain, but when I type it into my browser, nothing comes
up.
Again, a domain name is not a website, just a web address for a
website. If you want your new domain to be a web address for a website
for your corporate or personal use, you must contact a web design/hosting
company. Once they have a website ready for you, we can have your
new domain hosted by their servers. Contact your web host, and get
their Domain Name Server Info (DNS Info). You can have the new DNS
info put into your domain by clicking on the "Manage Your Domain"
link. The domain will then transfer to your new web host in 24-48
hours. If you already have a website, and registered a new domain
for it, be aware that some hosting companies do not accept a domain
being hosted on their host servers (members.abigisp.com/your-abigisp-site~template1765,
for example) Also, it may take a few days for the routing
to propagate to your new host on an acceptable server.

What
does it mean to transfer registrars?
If you already own a domain, you registered it using a domain name
registrar. By using our Transfer Registrar tool, you are simply
transferring your domain from the registrar you originally registered
to our registrar. (Please note, there is a 60-day transfer hold
- which means you have to wait two months from the initial registration
before you can transfer your domain.)

How
much does it cost?
You can transfer your domain from your previous domain registrar
to us for just $12. This will add up to
one year to the original registration term. For example,
if your domain is due to expire in 5 months, you can transfer it
to us for $12, and it will then expire in 1 year and 5 months.

Why
would I want to transfer registrars?
When you registered your domain you probably paid up to $50.00 to
reserve it. Now that it is coming due, you can save yourself some
money by taking advantage of 007-Host.com's extremely low transfer
prices. In addition, once the transfer is complete, you will be
able to easily manage your domain by using our secure online manager.

I don't need to transfer registrars in order to change DNS?
If you do NOT pay a much higher annual domain name registration
fee (again, our's is $9.75 per year), and if you like to keep your
present registrar but want to transfer your website to us at 007-Host,
then you only need to contact your present registrar to change your
account setup there - so that it points to our server. In many cases
your present registrar's website will allow you to do this by yourself
(in the "Account Management" or "My Account" section).
You will need to update the nameserver and netaddress information
(DNS) as instructed in the hosting welcome message we will send
you.

Will
transferring change my information?
No. All existing information in your domain record will be preserved.
Once the transfer has been completed, you can then use the Domain
Management System to change any information you choose.

How
do I change registrars?
Click on this Transfer
Registrars link. Enter the domain(s) you wish to transfer.
The administrative contact will receive an email to confirm the
transfer(s). (Please note: If the admin contact's email address
is outdated, they will not be able to receive the email, and there
can be no confirmation, and thus, no transfer. You must update your
admin contact's email address with your prior registrar first.)
